Parents, Gymnasts and Coaches,
We are in unprecedented times, please stay patient, calm and safe as we work through the situation we all find ourselves in at this time.
It is important we all try to maintain as much normality as possible. As such we tried to keep the gym open as long as possible and be assured that we will re-open as soon as possible (when safe to do so).
USAG has now officially ended our entire season State, Regionals and Nationals. While this is incredibly disappointing to everyone, I hope that you can keep this in perspective and recognize that everyone’s health and safety is so much more valuable and important. We will continue on to compete another day.
In the meantime we will be working behind the scenes and use this time to plan for our next season. The coaching staff will be working on levels for the boys and training structure so that we may get a head start on 2021 as soon as we can return.
We will hold our individual parent/gymnast meetings when we reopen and are excited to get back to work. Until that time, please leave non essential questions and allow us to gather more information. Like you, we are taking this hour by hour and things are changing rapidly. We we have new information I will pass it along immediately.
While at home it is incredibly important that the boys retain their fitness, specifically their strength, flexibility and handstands. I have made a suggested list of activities I would encourage the boys to do daily;
WARM-UP (15min)
- New warm-up starting with the wrists and working down the body (if you don't remember just do the old warm up)
HANDSTANDS
- 2 x 45degree Wall Handstand (60sec each)
- 2 x Wall Handstand (60 sec each)
- 10 free standing handstands (30 sec each)
STRENGTH
- 30 x L-sit, press to straddle stand (use books to stack on floor instead of panel mats)
- 20 x press handstand (try straddle, pike and from straddle L)
- 3 x 10 A-Frame push ups
- 3 x 30 Wide Arm Push ups
- 5 x 5 sec Straddle planch Hold
- MIDDLE BODY (20 x just toes lift/ just upper body/ hollow hold) front & back
- 50 frog jumps on the spot
- If you have a bar 3 x 10 chin ups
FLEXIBILITY (1 min each)
*** try to return with each of these down
- Splits Left/Right/Middle
- Pancake
- Pike
- Bridge
Please be safe out there and let me know if there is anything that I or GW can do if you find yourself in need.
Wade
